Tips for helping your little one (and you) settle into nursery
Starting nursery is a big milestone for both you and your child. Before your little one is due to join us, we’ll arrange a series of ‘settling in sessions' with you. These sessions are designed to ease your child (and you!) into the new routine of nursery life. As part of this process you’ll also receive an in-depth ‘settling in guide’ with all the info you’ll need to know.
1. Start having positive conversations about nursery a few days before your little one is due to start. You could explain to them that they are going to meet new friends and play with lots of new toys.
2. If your child has a comforter or special toy from home, having them with them at nursery can help. Consistency is key if you do bring in the special teddy, always bring it in even if you leave it in their bag to get it out when/ if they need it.
3. We understand it can be really difficult to say goodbye, especially if they’re upset. Please be assured we do everything we can to settle your child as quickly as possible. Before you leave, it’s helpful to say a calm goodbye and tell them you’ll be back later.
4. Pack their bag the night before to avoid the morning rush – include them in this process! Pack Spare clothes (with the weather in mind), more than one set – pack stuff you don't mind them getting dirty in and don’t forget the socks along with nappies, wipes, creams and formula milk (if needed) as well as their comforter or special toy. All meals and snacks are provided, along with cow’s milk and oat milk.
5. Be kind to yourself! We understand dropping your child off at nursery the first time is a huge deal and with that will bring a range of emotions!
