Picking Patch: Pick your own Pumpkins at Glenavon Farm

The Picking Patch is offering an exciting range of Halloween-themed activities at Genavon Farm this October. You can enjoy pumpkin picking with over 20 varieties available, including unique options like the Polar Bear and Goosebump pumpkins. Other activities include a Halloween maze with both a Junior Sleuth’s trail and a more challenging Detective’s maze. They also host special Twilight evenings on select dates, where you can explore the maze by torchlight from 7 PM. Entry to the mazes is £6 per person (ages 3+), and children under 2 go free.

Just a 30 minute drive and they have free parking or it’s a similar journey time by bus – you can take the 39 or x39 from Bristol Bus station and get off at Copse Road – a two minute walk from the farm.

Crunchy leaf Autumnal walk at Snuff Mills

This riverside walk meanders alongside the River Frome in Snuff Mills Park. You can park for free at the Snuff Mills car park where you will also find public toilets and there is also a little cafe/ tearoom. Explore the park at Snuff Mills, on the site of an old mill that you can see still turning the water with its big wheel. The mill was used for cutting and crushing stone from the many quarries along the Frome Valley during the late 19th century and got its name from the miller whose nickname was 'Snuffy Jack' because his smock was always covered in snuff. Wander along the riverside path where you might be lucky enough to spot moorhens, kingfishers, ducks, otters and more!

Suitable for buggies although sometimes can get a little muddy so we advise welly boots now the weather is starting to change. If you want to have a longer walk then head over the bridge and make a left towards Oldbury Court Estate, another beautiful park which is also home to a great children’s play area with a pirate ship play frame, although it's worth noting the walk to Oldbury Park and back to is about 2.3 miles in total which may impact timings with little legs to get to the playground.

When: Perfect for a weekend stroll!
Where: Start at Snuff Mills Car Park, Bristol BS16 1UH
